Carpenter Job - jobs in carpentry
There are several types of carpenters jobs. A rough carpenter does framing, formwork, roofs and other structural work that doesn't involve a lot of careful finishing, it is usually concealed by other materials, or finished by other carpenters or craftspeople.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, a finish carpenter would be involved in the creation of meticulously assembled cabinets (cabinetmakers is another name for these people) and furniture, using their high level of woodworking skills to make high quality items with a lot of attention to detail. These artisans would be involved in the creation of musical instruments, and can form very exact wooden joints with close tolerance levels.
Ship's carpenters on the other hand make ships, as well as maintaining and repairing them, while film-making, theatre or TV company carpenters work on building sets.
Carpenters fix wood together with nails and screws, dowels and hinges, and they use a wide range of interesting tools, some of which are manual, requiring just human effort and skill, such as saws, planes, hand drills, sanding blocks, vices and work benches, and the other sort of tool which is commonly used is electrically powered, and good examples of these are power tools like electric planers, drills, routers saws and electric sanders. Increasingly popular, nail guns and hot glue guns are accepted ways of fixing materials, but the thing that a good carpenter always has is years of skill learning their woodworking craft, either in a workshop or on an apprenticeship.
